WHAT IS THE  "BLANKET OF HONOR?"

The NW Sarcoma Foundation Blanket of Honor was initiated at the April 30, 2005 Bike, Hike or Trike event, and unveiled at the September 23, 2005 Wine and Cheese Reception.  It is a collection of standard sized  white pillow cases, that are prsonalized to recognize a sarcoma survivor or memorialize someone who has lost the battle with sarcoma.

The blanket has been created as a quilt, with the intention of displaying this Blanket (or soon to be Blankets) at every event we host or in which we participate.  The NW Sarcoma Foundation  believes that putting a face on sarcoma will help bring greater awareness to our advocacy efforts on behalf of sarcoma patients everywhere.  Pictures of the quilt front will soon be available to view on the website.

We continue to collect pillowcases to grow our Blanket of Honor and for a nominal amount we will add your pillowcase to the NW Sarcoma Foundation Blanket of Honor.  The cost is $15.00 to cover the materials of adding it to the Blanket. Please adhere to the standard size dimensions of  20"x30" (20 inches wide by 30 inches long), and please personalize your pillowcase by length format (simply put, the way you would use it on a pillow).  For example:   










Other sizes and variations make it very difficult to create the Blanket and we must keep the Blanket of Honor in a manageable form and size.  Ellen Lorenzen, a long time sarcoma survivor and friends have generously donated their time and talents to the "living work of art" that the Blanket of Honor is.  Please let's keep their job easy.  

When personalizing your pillowcase you may use embroidery, picture transfers, and cloth paint, please sew any appliques directly onto the pillowcase and do not use glue of any kind.  People have personalized their pillowcases with poems, songs, pictures and ribbons.
